The fine print
From 1st January 2023, a tourist tax of RM 10 per room per night is applied to all foreign guests. This tax is not included in the room rate and must be paid upon check-in. Guests with a valid Malaysian Identity Card or valid permanent residents MY PR Card are exempted. Please note that ferry schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions. The Barat Tioman Beach Resort will not be liable for ferry cancellations.

Great location towards end of beach/town, close to turtle sanctuary and right in front of nice beach. Inside room well furnished and clean. From outside doesn't look great. Very quiet village/kampung, local life going on all around, a lot of nice local places to eat and try out local cuisine. Well equipped recreation facilities on the beach with lots to do. Scooter rental place at resort entrance worthwhile (great way to get around and to explore the road that crosses the island linking Juara to Tekek).

The food at the hotel restaurant was great and having lived in Malaysia we were taken back to some of our favourite dishes. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming throughout our stay.

After extensive research on all accommodation on Juara Beach The Barat came out on top. Were we expecting luxury? No. Were we expecting good pre communication and did we get it? Yes. and no, they missed us off the list for a 4 by 4 pick up from Tekek jetty. The size of the room was good. Air con worked well. Lounges with cushions at the beach but not the beach loungers. Rain shower. Always plenty of hot water. An efficient arse blaster! Great pool about 20 metres. Plenty of cold and hot water stations to refill your bottle. Hair-dryer. Kettle and fridge in room. No sand flies on Juara and not outside The Barat Resort. Despite the negatives listed above we were glad we chose it after reading other horror stories!

1. To get there, you’ll have to arrive at Tekek Jetty. Order 4x4 provided by hotel. It’s 30 mins ride - RM30/pax one way. Let hotel know your boarding jetty time from Mersing / Tanjung Gemuk and driver will wait for you upon arrival. 2. The room is decent, clean and spacious. We booked the standard family chalet. AC is strong to cool whole room especially 1-4pm when it’s roasting hot outside. They provided so many towels and floor cloth too. Toiletries provided are shampoo and shower gel. Bring the rest yourself. Sunrise is 1-2 min walk from our room. Plenty of beach chairs, hammock, swing, bar w music at night. 3. Snorkelling trip is AWESOME. We did trip C which was the only one available. Request for Boboy and Razul if you can. They’re the best crew ever! Took care each and everyone of our safety so well while at the ocean - from young kids, beginner snorkeler to seasoned swimmer. They swam under water and pointed us turtle and nemo. They prepared plain bread to attract fishes. It’s the most beautiful thing ever. Snorkel around the rock in Batu Malang. Corals and fishes are beautiful. It’s quite a swim if there is wave. Recommend for seasoned swimmer only if there is wave.

It was a fantastic experience. The kids love the snorkelling and mostly the waterfall. The staff were very kind and supportive. I really recommande this resort.
